Art Lives Here Wausau 2019 is a street art contest designed to present artists in the area with easy access to spaces to produce public art. Through an application process open to local artists, we aim to produce up to 30 murals in the Wausau River District and Upper Third Street neighborhood of Wausau that better connect citizens to art and local businesses by increasing the flow of foot traffic within and near the district. The goals of Art Lives Here Wausau are to inspire Wausau’s artist community, generate new patterns of foot traffic, and promote the area as a place that welcomes local creatives through connections with local businesses and the greater community. We believe that public art has the ability to generate a sense of place within a community and foster creative expression within citizens. When property owners collaborate with artists they have the ability to make the city more welcoming for all in our community. The application opens on Friday, June 28th and closes on Friday, July 19th at 11:59 pm (CST). In late July/ early September, a panel of Wausau professionals will review applications submitted and choose the finalists that will be invited to complete their murals over a 3 day period between Thursday, September 5th - Saturday, September 7th. We end with a celebration party on Sunday, September 8th to thank all of the artists and volunteers involved and award 3 winners with cash prizes.

Friday, June 28th: Applications open to participate as a mural artist in Art Lives Here Wausau 2019. For more information about the application process see our Rules & Guidelines.

Friday, July 19 at 11:59 pm (CST): Application deadline.

Monday, August 5th: Applications are reviewed by a Panel of Jurors comprised of Wausau professionals. Chosen artists are notified via email by 4pm Monday, August 5th.

Friday, August 9th: Participants are given their site location and connected with the business owner of their site.

Friday, August 9th - Wednesday, September 4th: Artist and business owners are to work out the details of the design and purchase materials.

Thursday, September 5th - Saturday, September 7th: Implementation of murals happens over a 3 days day. Artist descend upon Wausau and the community is invited watch the artists in action.

10pm Saturday, September 7th: Murals must be completed, no exceptions.

Sunday, September 8th: The Panel of Jurors is invited back to award the winners for Best In Show and the 1st Runner Up.

Noon - 4pm Sunday, September 8th: Community members are invited to vote on their favorite mural to award the ‘People’s Choice.’ Ballots can be picked up at various locations around downtown. All votes must be cast between noon - 4pm Sunday, September 8.

5pm on Sunday, September 8: Winners are announced at the Celebration Party at the Alexander Walkway in Upper Third Street neighborhood. Artist, business, and community members are invited to celebrate the new art in our city.
