Rosati's brings Wausau a slice of Chicago

WAUSAU - Rosati's Pizza has been open for just over a month on Wausau's near-west side, but the manager hopes it soon will become a hangout for those who want good food in a family-friendly sports pub.

The pizza franchise started slinging Chicago-style deep dish pizza in early October, after months of construction to re-work the interior of the former Pizza Hut building at 210 S. First Ave. The Chicago-based franchise acquired the building in January and started renovations in February.

The restaurant boasts a sports pub, outdoor seating and a dining room where families can enjoy a meal together or watch the Packers play on game night. General manager Brian Fruend hopes that the restaurant will become the new spot to catch a game, no matter what sport.

"It's still family-friendly with it being a sports pub, " Fruend said. "Sunday afternoons, the game is on every TV, the jazz music is turned off. We're looking to be known as a sports pub on Sunday and Monday night."
