A new store called The Local will open its doors at 420 Third St. in downtown Wausau. The space, opened by local artist Alison Magnuson, will sell Wisconsin-made art ranging from T-shirts to paintings, drawings to candles, furniture and even soap.

"When people walk in, I want them to feel like they're in a retail shop, but it's all hand-made in Wisconsin," Magnuson said. "I want (customers) to know they're helping a family in Wisconsin, which is pretty neat."

The store will highlight the artists being displayed in the store by sharing their hometown and the story behind the art they're selling.

The Local will open in July.
