The Wausau River District is bringing a street art contest to Wausau for the first time.
The "Art Lives Here" contest will begin on Thursday, where about 20 artists will create murals on private businesses and homes on the north end of Third Street for ARTrageous Weekend.
Elizabeth Brodek, Executive Director of the Wausau River District, says most of the artists participating in the contest are local artists.
"Someone, generally, has some kind of contact with them," she said. "It's a really cool thing, that we have so many local artists in our community, that then will get to showcase their incredible talent out in the community for everybody to see."
The event will be open to the public and Brodek says will be things happening on Saturday.
"We have music from noon to 8 on Saturday. We have the Vietnamese food truck coming out on Saturday, as well, to feed everyone. Everyone is invited to come and explore all day Sunday to look at the finished, or mostly finished, pieces. All of the artists will be finished by 1pm," Brodek said.
The winners of the contest will be chosen by people who have donated do the contest. You can make a donation at the Glass Hat Bar or the Wausau River District office.
The first place winner will receive $750, second place gets $350, and third place takes home $150.
