How, when, and why did you start your business?

I opened Nicole’s boutique in 1997. My goal was and is to offer outstanding customer service and unique specialty fashion for almost every occasion to the Wausau area.

What makes your business unique?

The curated collections that are personally selected for the shop each season.

Why did you locate your business in the Wausau River District?

I opened in downtown Wausau because of the variety of specialty shops, restaurants, and events that attract visitors from near and far. The romantic vibe that comes from the beautifully preserved historic buildings and complimentary modern builds in downtown Wausau sets it apart from the ubiquitious stripmalls and big box scenes that we are used to seeing.

What motivates you?

Easy one: Terrific fashion and customer satisfaction.

How do you measure/define success?

Sales volume and customer retention are common metrics, but my favorite measure of success is a “wow” referral. When a new customer comes in because an existing customer looked smoking hot at a recent event.

What excites you most about the future of the district?

The growth. More places to live, eat, shop, and enjoy the arts. And Wausau’s passion for historic preservation.
